Mindset and How to Change Yours

Mindset is everything! It’s your judgement of everything.

Delving deeper… Your mindset is formed by the combination of your thoughts and the corresponding emotions and images. When you or someone adopts a certain mindset, that mindset literally sets the course for the rest of their actions and subsequent decisions.

Habits play a role in mindset. When you constantly have a certain mindset about a particular subject or person, the continued and repetitive thoughts form habits that continue to reinforce your mindset. A great example is when someone tells you over and over that something is bad or that you are doing something wrong, then that constant and consistent thought starts seeping into your mindset and reinforces any insecurities that you may have. That mindset then changes your future actions and your choices that you make.

There are 2 types of mindsets that determine our destinies:

  • Fixed
  • Growth

Fixed mindset believes “Failure is the limit of your abilities”, while Growth mindset believes, “Failure is an opportunity to grow.”

A great book to read is “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success” by Carol S. Dweck. The author states, “For twenty years, my research has shown that the view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life.” I see this every week in classes I teach and people I talk to. People that have insecurities about anything from the way they look, to the way they talk, their friends, their job and the list goes on. Anyone’s constant comments or opinions deepen their mindset and literally affect the decisions they make in their life, even a decision as simple as what clothes to wear or if you should email someone about a potential job. Mindset is a critical part of your entire life.

I dive deep into these 2 types of mindset in my podcast episode “Be Messy” listen >>HERE<<

Can you change your mindset? Absolutely you can!

See, if you’re willing to change, then you will be able to change your mindset with positive reinforcements and consistent habits. Positive and consistent are big keys to that change.

A very simple change of mind can propel you into a better you. If you think, “I can’t”, then change that and ask yourself, “How can I?”. With daily reinforcements, good habits will form, these good habits will help propel your mindset into the direction you want to change. Habits also help us when motivation is low or we hear those negative thoughts creep into our brain.

Remember, that it is not what happens to you that is important, but how you react to what happens that matters. We all have choices in how we respond to life and our responses propel our mindset.

Above all else YOU have the power to change your mindset and thus your life. Start today, right now, be bold, be unafraid and tune out all the noise of everyone else. You hold the key to your future, so turn it in the direction you want to go.
